Founder, Lead Curator & Lifelong Puzzle Nerd
Art & Fable Puzzle Company began with a simple belief: if you’re going to spend hours with a puzzle, the experience should feel beautiful from beginning to end. Founder Marcia Durgin grew up loving puzzles, first working on them with her mother and siblings, and later sharing that same experience with her own children.
Over time, she became frustrated with puzzles that felt disposable. Then, while visiting her daughter during her art studies in Italy, Marcia found herself surrounded by extraordinary artists, breathtaking paintings, unforgettable landscapes, and of course, amazing food. This fed her soul and sparked a question: Why do you need to settle for ordinary puzzles when you can piece together extraordinary art?
Before founding Art & Fable, Marcia and her husband spent more than 30 years running a European-style scratch bakery – a business built around craftsmanship, quality, and creating meaningful community experiences. That same philosophy eventually found its way into puzzles.
Today, Art & Fable is a premium jigsaw puzzle brand that celebrates international artists with immersive, art-inspired puzzles featuring velvety soft-touch pieces, zero-glare surfaces, and details designed to elevate the puzzling experience. Because art was never meant to be glanced at, but enjoyed, piece by piece.
Our Mission is Simple
Art & Fable Puzzle Company™ aims to kindle curiosity & ignite enthusiasm for visual art in the modern world, through the simple and profound pleasure of puzzling.
The visual arts are an integral part of any flourishing culture, yet our modern world offers increasingly fewer venues for painters to showcase their work. We envision a future where the audience for hardworking artists expands– where anyone can passionately engage with art, as they would with their favorite song or movie. We believe that classic jigsaw puzzles are a simple and surprisingly effective way to spark genuine, long-lasting appreciation for art.
A painting reveals itself differently when experienced through puzzling. When assembling a painting in puzzle form, we notice details about the piece we hadn’t previously– the subtle shifts of color and value, the variety of the brushstrokes. It allows us to interact with a painting in a more intimate way, and, perhaps even step briefly into the mind of the painter themselves. Art & Fable hopes to deepen one’s appreciation and understanding of an artist’s works, processes, and individual stories.

Art & Fable believes art has the power to connect people, inspire reflection, and create meaningful impact beyond the puzzle table. In addition to supporting independent artists, every puzzle purchased also helps support charitable organizations chosen by the artists themselves — extending the story behind the artwork into causes that matter deeply to them. Through thoughtful art, immersive puzzling, and giving back with every puzzle sold, Art & Fable hopes to create experiences that feel both personally meaningful and socially connected.
Our Eco-Mission
Art & Fable is committed to creating puzzles that are as thoughtful in their design as they are beautiful to experience. Our boxes are intentionally smaller than traditional puzzle packaging while still showcasing the puzzle image at an excellent viewing size, helping reduce the materials and energy required for manufacturing and shipping. Both the puzzle and box are made from recycled paper board, and every puzzle includes a resealable bag designed to help protect pieces from moisture and preserve the puzzle for years to come.
We also use only brown kraft paper and community-collected packing materials rather than plastic or styrofoam packaging. In addition, our newest puzzles now include a compostable BIO BAG, offering an even more environmentally conscious packaging solution.
