Mario González Chavajay

Mario González Chavajay is a well-known Tz’utujil Mayan artist from San Pedro la Laguna in Guatemala. With over twenty years of painting experience, he works tirelessly to perfect his craft. Even while growing up in a life of scarcity, González Chavajay has never given up his passion and continues to paint works of art to provide for his family. In his work, he portrays the rich culture of the Mayan people, incorporating the wisdom of his ancestors and the beauty of the natural world to bring awareness to the suffering that his people have endured.  Learn more about González Chavajay’s life and art in this 4 min. youtube video.
